Black Chana and Yellow Pea Fry is an awesome combination dish from the Thanjavur/ Kumbakonam region, this dish goes well with tamarind or lemon rice, or even with sambar, rasam or yogurt rice. This dish can also be easily converted into a gravy or a chaat.
Wash and pressure cook soaked black chana and yellow peas along with sambar powder, turmeric powder, hing, salt and enough water for 3 whistles.
Do the tadka with the ingredients listed. Make sure the onion and tomatoes are sauteed well. Add coconut paste and fry for couple of mins.
Add the contents from the pressure cooker and mix well and cook (without cover) until the moisture evaporates and the fry gets to a semidry consistency.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
