I created this recipe inspired by the dish I tasted in the famous Kumar’s Mess in Madurai during my recent India trip.
If you are a mango lover (like everyone in our family), you certainly will enjoy this recipe! Goes very well as a side dish with a variety of dishes ranging from rice, sambar, non-veg curries, chapathis, etc.
Mango Spicy Pachadi
A tangy and spicy fry made with raw mango
Ingredients
- 1 Raw mango sliced
Seasoning ingredients
- 1/2 tbsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Methi seeds
- 2 Red chilies broken
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Hing
Other ingredients
- 1 Onion chopped
- 2 Green chilies chopped
- 1 Tomato chopped
- 1 tbsp Sambar Powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 tbsp Coconut paste
- 1 tbsp Jaggery powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp Oil
Sambar powder substitute
- 1/2 tbsp Chili powder
- 1/2 tbsp Coriander powder
Instructions

Slice the raw green mango into small chunks along with the skin.

Take a pan, add oil, season with mustard, when it splutters, add methi seeds or powder, red chilies, curry leaves, dose of hing, and then add chopped onion, green chillies and fry till golden brown, followed by chopped tomato, fry well till tomato is mashed.

Add the chopped mango, sambar powder (or sambar powder substitute), turmeric, coconut paste, quarter cup water, salt to taste, mix well and cook covered for 5 mins.

Open the lid, add jaggery powder, mix well and fry for another 2 or 3 mins. The mangos should be cooked and soft, but they should retain some shape and texture and should not get too soft/ mushy.
