Mango Lassi (Happy Father’s Day)

Happy Father’s Day to all coolest dads out there!

I started my day with a call to my dad in India to wish him.  I do not know what happened, I said these words to him after wishing him: “Dad, I did not realize how hard you worked for us when I was a kid.  But I can feel it now!”.

I also received Father’s day wishes (albeit with some difficulty) from my recently turned teenager son after he woke up.  No surprise cards or gifts or screams or hugs from him this time! In fact, I was waiting for him to wish me but he did not. Then I lost patience and asked him, “Sanjay, do you know what day is today?” He replied “Sunday?”. I told him then, “Yeah… but it is also a special day today!”. “Oh, Father’s Day?” – he replied.  But no wishes yet. I then asked him if he was going to wish me, he finally said “Happy Father’s Day Dad!”. We also made him wish my Father-in-Law who has visited and staying with us “Happy Father’s Day Grandpa!”.  Hmmm, until last year he used to make Special Father’s Day Greeting Cards for me, but none this year!!!  He even wrote to Santa one year “Santa! My dad really wants a Beamer, but he does not have enough money. Can you please give him a Beamer for this Christmas?”.  I literally cried seeing that message. My dear most son Sanjay, thank you so much for giving me the most precious gift of experiencing fatherhood!

My wife and Sanjay made an awesome Mango Lassi for me for Father’s Day.  Thanks to our friend Ganesh here, we got imported fresh Banganapalle and Kesar mangoes from India. The mangoes tasted so divine, and same with the lassi!

Mango Lassi is our family favorite and we always order it when eating out at Indian restaurants. We have now decided that we will make this more frequently at our home.

And Father’s Day was extra special as our dear friend Sau (from Austin) dropped by for a quick visit with his family in spite of their busy schedule. It was so nice to catch up with them after 8 years gap!
