Beetroot Halwa
I learnt this recipe from my wife. It is a very simple recipe, but is one of the most popular recipe from Senthil’s Kitchen. This is also a very popular potluck dish, so please try it for your next potluck event and you will thank me (actually my wife) so much!
I seriously think my wife has many more cool recipes like this, but I do not get to know them because she stopped cooking a long time ago, that too because of me (will share that story some other day).
Beetroot Halwa
Ingredients
- 3 Beetroots (medium sized) organic if possible
- 1/2 cup Whole Milk
- 1/4 cup Sugar Brown sugar if preferred
- 4 tbsp Ghee
- 10 Cashews
- 25 Raisins optional
- 3 Cardamom crushed, or 1 tsp Cardomom powder
Instructions
-
Organic, medium sized beets taste very good for this recipe. But you can use regular beets as well. Wash the beets and peel the skin and then grate them finely in a veggie grater using the smallest setting.
-
Take a pot and add the grated beetroot, milk and cook for 15 – 20 mins in medium heat stirring occasionally.
-
When it is almost cooked, add sugar, ghee and continue cooking for additional 5 mins till the halwa cooks fully and obtains the desired consistency.
-
Roast cashews (or your preferred nuts), raisins (optional) in ghee and add to halwa. Also add 3 crushed cardamom, mix well and serve.
Recipe Notes
· Warm the halwa before serving.
· You can add a scoop of ice-cream (any preferred flavor) along with the halwa when serving (lovely combination).
